Thank you for sharing this as there is a biracial couple on tiktok who receive a lot of ignorant comments too. I’m sorry you have experienced such ignorance.
Thank you! Oh my goodness... That poor couple just want to live their lives... It's a shame for people to actually be so ignorant! I'm used to it, unfortunately.
Thank you for this, Cheniece. I really appreciate your perspective and reading about your experience has opened my eyes to the challenges and especially the beauty and gifts that come from raising biracial children and being in a biracial marriage. I love when you explain that your husband chose you for you, because he wants to be with you. I have felt the misconceptions in my own biracial relationship and it's wild how often it happens. Even the simple things like music and food become a topic of race and the assumptions make me roll my eyes more than I'd like to admit.
Thank you for taking the time to write about your experiences, and like you said, there's no way to contain it all into one piece, but I'm grateful for what you've shared here.
Cheniece, thank you for finding the courage to write about this topic! I also have biracial kids and struggle with some of the insensitivities and ignorance you shared.
“My children are just as white as they are black. My children are actually neither of those things; they’re entirely just themselves.”
Wow - that statement rings so loud in my soul. Everyone will tell us my girls look just like me and it makes me self conscious because I feel like people expect them to look more white. Would I get that comment as often if they did? But you’re right - they are neither me or my husband. They are entirely themselves. 🫶
Thank you so much for sharing that with me. We have something in common! We'll both be sure to remember that our little ones are their own selves, and not us as the parents... I'm so glad that you had this reaction! Oh, and a lot of great people have come from Mississippi, lol

I’m sorry. That absolutely sucks.

I'm glad that you can appreciate what I managed to fit into this piece! Thank you for your thoughtful response!
You have an adorable family, Cheniece!
Thank you so much for saying that! I'm flattered!
